RECOVER ACTIVELY

The Gacka Valley is worth a visit at any time of the year. You can really do something for yourself with us, especially between April and October. Nature lovers get their money's worth.

Velebit Hiking

We are located in Gacka high valley, which offers many destinations for individual and varied hikes. You can walk along flat paths along the river, as well as sporty hikes in the nearby Velebit Mountains. The approximately 2000 meter high Zavižan mountain group can be explored in a challenging but also interesting hike with via ferrata. After 6.5 hours of ascent you reach the mountain hut, which also offers food.

Bike Tours

The beautiful and mostly flat paths along the river invite you to take panoramic bike tours. Follow the signposted routes BARKAN TRAIL (42.6 km) DREI SEE WEG (30.8 km) DABAR BREVIARY TRAIL (37.3 km) URSA MAJOR TRAIL (34.7 km) HAJDUČKA DRAGE TRAIL (52 km) or JURJEVE STIJENE TRAIL (34.7 km) Rest under one of the numerous plum trees and enjoy the peace and quiet by the water. The Velebit Mountains offer a sporty challenge for mountain bikers. eBikes can be rented at a public rental station in Otocac.

Gacka-Springs

The springs of the Gacka are a popular excursion destination. There you can watch the fresh, invigorating bubbling of the Gacka water, watch the mill wheel or just enjoy the river in the sun. Several springs can be visited one after the other, and together they form one of the largest underground water reservoirs in Europe. Tip for a stop: Pizzaria Ruspante, one of the best-rated restaurants in Croatia!

World Heritage Plitvice Lakes

Our holiday homes are only a few minutes drive from the famous Plitvice Lakes. The Plitvice Lakes National Park was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 as one of the first natural monuments in the world. The best way to hike the park with its currently 16 visible lakes is in two days. On the first day you walk along the upper lakes. Well-developed hiking and plank paths on the lakes or through the forest allow even inexperienced hikers a unique experience of nature! On the second day you hike around the lower lakes and can admire the unique and impressive waterfalls and vegetation. https://np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/en/

Stalactite Caves Grabovača

The grottoes in Grabovača, which can be reached in 20 minutes by car, promise an impressive experience. The cave system, which has not yet been fully explored, can be visited in tours with trained guides. The hike takes you about 250 meters deep into the mountain. There you can marvel at the up to 30 meter high dome of the cave with gigantic stalagmites. The stalactite caves of "Pećinski park Grabovača" maintain a constant temperature of around 8 degrees Celsius in summer and winter. Apart from clothing and sturdy shoes that are suitable for this climate, there are no physical or age requirements for the visit. The path through the caves is always at least 4 meters high and 25 meters wide. However, there are approx. 470 steps to climb during the approx. 2-hour tour. You can find more information here http://www.pp-grabovaca.hr

A sunny day at the beach

In just 30 minutes by car you can reach the coast of the Croatian Adriatic. The places Senj or the well-known Novi Vinodolski invite you to swim, sunbathe and linger with their public beaches. We also recommend the beautiful former Roman city of Zadar, which not only has clean beaches but also an ancient old town and interesting museums. A visit to the Sea Organ, an acoustic attraction that is "played" by the waves of the sea, is a must!

Kayak-Tours on Gacka river

With a transparent kayak you can relax and follow the quiet course of the Gacka and observe the flora and fauna underwater.

Quad bike tours

Book a guided quad safari and experience the Gacka Valley and the hilly landscape of the Velebit Mountains on gravel roads, dirt roads and forest roads.

The well-known inventor, physicist and electrical engineer Nicola Tesla was born in Smiljan near the town of Gospic in 1856. In his honor, a memorial was built with Museum of 2006. The Memorial Center is open from late March to late October and there are guided tours several times a day www.mcnikolatesla.hr/en

City trips to Opatija or

University City of Zagreb

The coastal town of Opatija is also called the "Marbella of Croatia". Once a town that the K&K monarchs visited for their summer vacation, Opatija is still a magnet for International Glitterati. There is much to see! The state capital Zagreb can be easily reached in just over an hour with a direct motorway connection. The largest city in Croatia with approx. 820,000 inhabitants offers a wide range of culture, sights and shopping opportunities

Fishing on Gacka river

The Gacka river is a popular fishing area and is known for the wealth of large brown trout. Thanks to the optimal water temperature and oxygen richness, the brown trout grows four times faster than in other river areas. Rainbow trout, grayling, carp, chub and eel can also be found in the Gacka. The fishing season runs from the beginning of April to the end of September. Fishing permits can be purchased on site in Otočac.

Kuterevo Bear Sanctuary

In the vicinity of Krasno there is the mountain village Kuterevo, where a bear rearing station is operated. Motherless bear cubs are raised in an outdoor enclosure and then released back into the wild. The facility is not only exciting for children, the landscape is beautiful and the mountain village allows an insight into life in the high mountains. www.baerenfreunde-kuterevo.de

Krasno

The St. Mary's Church "Holy Mother of Krasno" located high in Velebit, about 15 km away, is a popular pilgrimage destination for believers from all over Croatia and some neighboring countries. It is possible to drive to the church or to the restaurant 100 meters away. From there you have a wonderful panoramic view over the Velebit Mountains. In the village of Krasno, the small local cheese dairy offers a culinary experience. There you can also buy various fresh and mountain cheeses.

Tennis

There are several sand tennis courts in the immediate vicinity of the holiday homes, where lessons and training units can also be booked.

Olympic Skiing Area Bjelolasica

About 80 km away is the former Olympic winter sports area around the mountain Bjelolasica, the highest mountain in Gorski kotar. The well-known nature parks of Smarske i Bijele Stijene, the Klek Mountains, the Dobra, Kupa and Mrzenica rivers are in the immediate vicinity. Due to the beautiful nature Bjelolasica is a true paradise for mountaineers!

ZIP Line, Climbing, Disk Golf

In a neighboring municipality there is a provider of adventures of a special kind: On the ZIP Line "Beware of the Bear" you can fly over a course at around 120 km / h hanging on a rope and see our uniquely beautiful landscape from a bird's eye view. There is also a disk golf field and a climbing wall www.ziplineplitvice.com Picture © Vladimir Bogovčič/Prodigy pictures Thanks for showing the fun!

Birdwatching

Over 50 different bird species live in intact nature on the Gacka. A bird watcher will guide you through the landscape on kayaks or mountain bikes on the river and let you explore the interesting fauna of the Gacka Valley with professional binoculars. With a little luck you might even spot hummingbirds here!

Bowling

The city bowling alley in Otočac is also the training center of the Croatian national team. Bowling alleys can be rented daily, appointments must be made on weekends. www.kuglanje.hr/kuglane/53
